Blackalicious @ UCR’s The Barn – Photo Review

By

Hip hop duo Blackalicious raised the roof at The Barn at UC Riverside in February 2013, bringing a good dose of West Coast underground hip hop to the Inland Empire.

Blackalicious’s man behind the mic, Gift of Gab, brought his fast-flowing and turbulent phonetic skills to the show. DJ Chief Xcel made sure the tunes flowed and set the stage for some fast rapping. And friend of the group rapper Versatile joined Gift of Gab for some of the freestyles that keeps the crowds coming back to this NorCal-based duo’s concerts. Among the hits performed were Alphabet Aerobics, Rhythm Sticks, and World of Vibrations.

The next time Blackalicious make it back to the I.E., their show should be on any music lover’s things to do list. You may not hear them on the radio, but they’ve been touring and having concerts across the country for years. They’re one of hip hop’s best-kept secrets, with Gift of Gab’s big size matching that of his rapping ability.
